New Character in 1.20: A Test - Part 1

A lot of people are complaining about the difficulty new players face when starting out and how hard it is to level in the early levels.  To test this I have created a new character to try it out and see if these complaints have any merit.

For this test I have given myself no Gil, equipment or anything that a new person wouldn't have right out of the character creation screen. I did allow myself my my collectors edition Onion Helmet.

Letter from the Producer, XXII (12/21/2011)

The newest Letter from the Producer is up. Sure, he is sorry for 1.20 being late and promises 1.20a yet this year and 1.20b next year. Ok, 2.0 development is moving right along. But we think the most exciting part of that letter was the screenshot for the new exclusive gear sets!
Now that is what adventurers should look like!

Server Merge

Producer/Director Yoshi has verified that after billing begins,  FFXIV will be having a server merge. There has been a lot of debate on the official forums about this topic.

First Impressions: A 1.20 Conversation

Hey Yelta? What's your favorite thing so far about 1.20?

Am I allowed to say the Moogle song?
Moogles like music, and murdering adventurers.

Lol! That song is haunting me. It’s one of my favorite little things too! But in the larger scale, I’m enjoying the new abilities and traits. Gladiator has gotten much more powerful, and gained many new traits to help us with enmity. We’re set up well for the Paladin job. How is Conjurer holding up?

The Conjurer abilities are pretty good, I have ways to control hate, regain mp.  Can still cross class some useful skills. Healing with the new no-tier system worried me but I believe it is going to be just fine. We need an Ifrit fight or something to do a real test. I cannot wait to see how White Mage will be!

A Feast of Fools - part 1

Last night we got to experience the joy that is the new quest "A Feast of Fools".

There are 5 quest items you need to farm to enter Thornmarch.  The first time you go you feel like just farming the pop items is harder than Ifrit.  However, once everyone knows what their are doing and how everything there aggros and such, it won't really be a huge deal.

First off, Guardian of the Grove:

We don't want to know what we did to piss those trees off... but they will mess you up unless you tiptoe past them. Oh and don't aggro anything else near them or they will 1 shot you...

The Starlight Celebration

The Starlight Celebration has begun in Eorzea!

The quest itself is short and sweet, and with only a bit of running around you get the Reindeer Suit and Antlers.

Did we mention we are cute?

1.20: The good, the bad, the ugly...

The good news is the patch 1.20 notes have been up for a few days and there is a lot to love in there.

The bad news is that the release scheduled for 12/14 has been delayed by "minimum of 2 days" as noted in this forum post.

The ugly is that Yelta is still whining about not having an Ifrit drop ><;

Billing to begin in January

Clicky to read the billing announcement.

Like everyone else, we are not looking forward to having to pay a monthly subscription fee. But good news! It is so very cheap, like $10 a month cheap, or if you subscribe for 6 months at a time $8 a month. We easily have $10 worth of fun each month, so SE can have our money. Besides, I spend more than the 180 day subscription price in wine* in a month. **

Sneakpeek on the Dark Moogle Loot!

If you haven't watched the video, check it out here.

My initial reaction was "are you fricking serious?!?" These don't fit my idea of the "feel" for this game! I think my reaction was caused by my expectation that boss loot should be serious and bad ass looking, and silly fun stuff should come from holiday and other type of events/quests.

Then I calmed down and remembered it was just a game.

Job-Specific Equipment

The other day the developers stated that this first round of job-specific equipment (JSE) is going to be un-dyeable. Many people are screaming and crying about it, but we personally like it. This is only the first JSE and we're sure it will be replaced all to soon as best-in-slot (BIS). I agree that we don't all want to look like clones all the time, but it seems a nice reminder of Final Fantasy's roots.

There is going to be a ton of gear in this game and much of it will be dyeable. Let us have the classic Final Fantasy 1 look for just one set.
